コネクトからメリークリスマス！

コネクト英会話スクールでのクリスマスシーズンは、いつも陽気で明るく、元気な子どもたちの声でいっぱいになります。12月になると、教室はイルミネーションやツリーの飾り、雪の結晶などでデコレーションされ、より楽しく英語を学べる場所へと変貌します。

コネクトキッズでは教科書を一旦おいて、ワクワクするようなクリスマスゲームやアクティビティをして楽しみました。クリスマスカードを作ったり、フラッシュカードで新しいクリスマスに関する単語を学んだり、「Pass the Parcel」や「Pin the Nose on the Reindeer」というゲームをして、子供達はたくさんの賞品をゲットしていました。クリスマス・キリスト降誕物語も読みました。サンタの帽子をかぶった子どもたちの笑い声が響き渡り、クリスマス気分に浸ることができました。

また先週末にはベトナムレストランSen Việtでクリスマスパーティーを開催しました。英会話スクールと日本語学校の生徒さんと先生方が一緒にクリスマスをお祝いをする特別な時間となりました。ベトナム料理を食べたり、クリスマスゲームをしたり、とても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。パーティーを盛り上げてくださった皆さんに心から感謝致します！また次回のイベントでお会いできることを楽しみにしています。来年からの最新ニュースもお楽しみに！

クリスマスはもともとキリスト教の祝日で、神の御子と信じるイエス・キリストの誕生を祝うものです。12月25日、彼らは希望を与え、人間を救うイエスを送ってくださった神に感謝します。キリスト教信者はは、教会の礼拝や歌を歌ったり、愛する人と過ごしたりしてクリスマスを祝います。

A Merry Christmas at Connect

 

Christmas time at Connect Eikaiwa School is always merry and bright and filled with the sounds of cheerful children. In December, we decorate our classrooms with lights, tinsel, snowflakes and more to create a positive place for learning English.

At Connect Kids School, we put our textbooks aside and enjoyed various exciting Christmas games and activities. We created Christmas greeting cards, learned new Christmas words with flashcards, and played games called ‘Pass the Parcel’ and ‘Pin the Nose on the Reindeer’, with lots of prizes to be won. We also read The Christmas Nativity story. There was plenty of laughter from the children, in their festive Santa hats, adding to the Christmas spirit. 

We also had our Christmas Party at Sen Việt Vietnamese Restaurant last weekend. It was a special time as students and teachers from our English and Japanese classes met to celebrate together. We had a very good time talking, eating Vietnamese food, and playing Christmas games. A big thank you to everyone who made the party so great! We hope to see you again at our next events. Did you know?

Christmas is originally a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, who they believe is God’s Son. On December 25th they thank God for sending Jesus who gives hope and saves humans. Christians mark it with church services, singing, and spending time with loved ones.

ハロウィン

先週、名古屋にある本校、コネクト英会話でハロウィンイベントを実施しました。皆さんとこのハロウィン体験を分かち合い、新しい生徒さんたちと出会えたことを大変嬉しく思います！

スクールはカボチャやコウモリなどの不気味な装飾で飾られました。でも一番良かったのは生徒の皆さんが素晴らしい仮装をして来てくれたことです！吸血鬼から魔女、そして様々なアニメのキャラクターまで、皆さんとても素敵でした。ビンゴやボール投げゲームなどのゲームをしたり、怖い話を読んだり、ディスコダンス対決をしたりもしました！

でも単に楽しいゲームだったわけではありません。ghost, pumpkin, batなど、ハロウィンまつわる新しい単語を練習し覚える絶好の機会にもなりました。みんなが一生懸命、楽しみながら学ぼうとしているのを見ることができるのは大変嬉しく思います。これこそがコネクト英会話の醍醐味！ハロウィンのようなイベントごとは、ただ仮装をするだけでなく異文化を学ぶチャンスでもあります。

Halloween

Last week, we had a special Halloween event at Connect Eikaiwa School in Nagoya. It was such a wonderful time, and we were excited to share the experience with you and meet new students!

The school was decorated with pumpkins, bats, and other spooky decorations. But the best part? Many of you came dressed in fantastic costumes! From vampires to witches and even various anime characters, everyone looked fantastic. We played games such as bingo and ball throwing games, read some scary stories, and even had a disco dance off! 

But it wasn’t all just fun and games. Our event also provided an excellent chance to practice and learn some new Halloween words like ghost, pumpkin, or bat. It was great to see everyone trying their best and learning while having fun. This is what Connect Eikaiwa is all about! Remember, events like Halloween are not just an occasion to dress up, it’s also a chance to learn about a different culture.

Did you know?

Halloween is originally a Celtic festival from the British Isles, celebrating the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. Over time, it became popular in many countries, including the UK and the USA. On this day, people often wear costumes, carve pumpkins, and children go ‘trick-or-treating’ for sweets.

2022年のコネクトクリスマスパーティー

先週末、Chikusa Grillで2022年のクリスマスパーティーを開催しました。英語学校と日本語学校の生徒と先生が参加して、パンデミック開始以来初めてのイベントとなりました。おいしい料理を食べながら、みんなで楽しくおしゃべりをし、伝統的なクリスマスキャロルも歌いました。

このような素晴らしいイベントを開催することができ、ありがとうございました。また来年も開催しますので、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

Last weekend, we hosted our 2022 Christmas Party at Chikusa Grill. Students and teachers from both our English and Japanese schools joined us for our first event since the beginning of the pandemic. We enjoyed talking together, eating good food, and singing some traditional Christmas carols too!

ハロウィーンのおかしさ

風が吹き、建物が軋み、子どもたちが笑う…そんな暗く不気味な1週間でした。

コネクトのハロウィーンパーティーには、3つの目を持つ猫の女の子、悪魔の手下、「千と千尋の神隠し」や「進撃の巨人」のキャラクター、さらにはホグワーツからやってきた魔法使いなど、いつもとは違う、そしてとてもクリエイティブなキャラクターたちが集まりました（保護者の方々に盛大な拍手！）。ハロウィンをテーマにした椅子取りゲームや歌、ダンス、コウモリのランタンなどのペーパークラフト、不気味な絵本の読み聞かせ、そしてもちろん甘いお菓子も食べました！ この一週間は、楽しくて、エキサイティングで、ショッキングな出来事も少なかったようです。保護者の方々も一緒になって楽しんでいました。

最近、日本でもハロウィンの人気が高まり、渋谷や道頓堀、栄などの繁華街では、お気に入りのホラー映画やアニメのキャラクターに仮装した人たちをよく見かけるようになりました。しかし、この珍しいお祭りはもともとどこから来て、なぜ祝われるようになったのでしょうか。意外なことに、このお祭りは何百年も前に宗教的なお祭りとして始まり、ヨーロッパのキリスト教徒が死者を偲び、敬意を表すために集まる日だったのです。やがて、移民によってアメリカに伝わり、世界中に広まりました。現在では、カボチャの彫刻、トリック・オア・トリート、アップル・ボビング、ホラー映画の鑑賞など、さまざまなアクティビティが人気です。しかし、一部のキリスト教徒は、教会の礼拝に出席し、死者の墓にろうそくを灯し、肉食を控えるなど、本来の伝統的な行事を今でも実践しています。

It was a dark and spooky week at Connect, the wind was howling, the building was creaking and the children were… laughing?! 

Among the unusual and very creative characters (well done parents!) at the Connect Halloween party was a cat girl with 3 eyes, a demon minion, characters from ‘Spirited Away’ and ‘Attack on Titan’ and even a wizard all the way from Hogwarts! We had Halloween themed games such as musical chairs, songs and dances, paper crafts such as a bat lantern, read spooky stories, and of course ate some sweet treats! There was fun, excitement, and only a few shocks throughout the week. Even some of the parents tried to join in on the action! 

Recently Halloween has become more popular in Japan and you will often see crowds packed out in busy areas such as Shibuya, Dotonbori or Sakae dressed up as their favourite horror movie or anime character. But where did this unusual festival originally come from and why was it celebrated? Surprisingly it began as a religious festival hundreds of years ago, as a day where Christians in Europe would gather to remember and honour the dead. Eventually it was spread by immigrants to America and then around the world. Over the years the festival has changed and popular activities now include carving pumpkins, trick-or-treating, apple bobbing, watching horror movies and more. However some Christians today still practice the original traditions, such as attending church services, lighting candles on the graves of the dead and abstaining from eating meat.
